Dermal Fillers Q&A

What do dermal fillers do?

Injectable dermal fillers work to plump lips, fill in lines and wrinkles, and fill out cheeks that have grown hollow or flat. As you age, decreases in volume occur due to a loss of the thin layer of fat under facial skin, which dermal fillers can correct. By plumping and filling out your cheeks, you’ll be left with a fuller, less gaunt appearance and fewer creases and lines. Ultimately, you get a more youthful glow.

Dermal fillers are a simple alternative to invasive surgery when you want a younger appearance.

What dermal fillers are available?

The practice offers a number of dermal fillers from the Juvéderm family. These include:

  • Juvéderm XC, which smooths lines around your nose and mouth and lasts 1-2 years
  • Juvéderm Vollure XC, which adds volume to deep lines around the mouth and lasts 1-2 years
  • Juvéderm Ultra XC, which adds lots of fullness to the lips and makes them plump with results that last about 1 year
  • Juvéderm Volbella XC, which adds subtle volume and smooths out lip lines with results that last about 1 year
  • Juvéderm Voluma XC, which adds volume to many places on your face, including the chin, cheeks, and nose

Talk with Dr. Tran about which formulas will help you meet your aesthetic goals.

Are there any long-term side effects of dermal fillers?

The biggest long-term result from dermal filler treatments is having a more youthful look for 1-2 years. Any other side effects that come with the injectable are minor and short-lived. Shortly after your treatment, you may feel some itching or notice swelling in the injection sites. Redness and lumps may also occur, but they can fade quickly with time. Most people notice results right away and you can go back to work or school immediately after treatment.

If you’re concerned about the side effects that come with dermal filler treatments, talk to Dr. Tran. He works diligently to ensure that all of his patients are safe and feel comfortable with their procedures.

What are the ingredients in dermal fillers?

Juvéderm products contain hyaluronic acid, which is also known as HA. HA is a natural substance your body produces that provides your skin with hydration, plumpness, and structure. As you get older, your levels of HA decrease, creating hollowed contours. Dermal fillers help restore more youthful levels of HA so you look younger and more radiant.

Combined with the HA is a small amount of local anesthetic, lidocaine, which works to reduce the amount of pain you might feel with the injections. The injections fill out and plump up your cheeks, and the effects can last up to 18 months.
